The weekly routine
Dust mop or soft-broom the floor once a week. Grit is the enemy — tiny stones under tires and shoes grind the topcoat every time they move. A two-minute sweep does more for floor life than any product you can buy.
Mopping
Damp mop with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Skip the harsh degreasers and citrus cleaners for routine mopping — they can dull the topcoat over time. For oil drips, wipe them up when you see them; epoxy resists staining, but no floor likes sitting in oil for a month.
Winter in Fairfax County
Road salt is the seasonal threat. It will not eat epoxy the way it eats bare concrete, but piles of salty slush left all winter keep the floor wet and can dull the finish. Rinse the floor a few times each winter — a hose and a squeegee is all it takes. Our winter salt guide goes deeper.
What not to do
Do not drag sharp metal — lift it or use a dolly. Put soft pads under jack stands. And never use a steam cleaner on epoxy; the heat can soften the resin. Treat it like a good countertop and it will look like one for years.
